Wi-Fi at Home: Borrow a Hotspot

Green Tree Public Library loans out WiFi hotspots to cardholders. A WiFi hotspot is a device you can use to connect a mobile-enabled device, such as a laptop, smartphone or tablet, to the Internet. The hotspot is portable, so it goes where you go – on the bus, in a park or at home. It’s perfect for business and leisure travel too. With the hotspot, users no longer have to contend with roaming charges and spotty internet access while on the road.

Library cardholders may borrow one WiFi hotspot at a time, which can support up to 10 WiFi enabled devices. The hotspots go out for one week and cannot be renewed. Stop into the library to either pick up a hotspot, if available, or put yourself on the waiting list to receive one later. Like other library items, the hotspots are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and will be lent out in the order in which they are requested. At this time, hotspots cannot be placed on hold from other libraries nor transferred to other libraries through delivery. Hotspots must be returned during regular business hours.

Borrowing and using the device is free! However, a fine of $1.00 per day will be assessed for overdue hotspots and Internet access will be deactivated within 24 hours beyond their due date. Should the hotspot or its accessories be lost or damaged, the borrower would be responsible for its replacement fee ($70.00 for the hotspot, $10.00 for the charger and $13.00 for the case). One more thing to keep in mind: patrons’ internet usage is not tracked by the Library, but while using the hotspots, patrons are governed by the same rules as the Library’s Internet Acceptable Use Policy and Internet Use Policy. The hotspots are easy and convenient to use. Each one is packaged as a kit that includes a case, a charger and step-by-step instructions.
