Love Your Library Month: A Message from the Director

Dear Library Supporters,

One year ago, the library unlocked our doors after being closed for an unprecedented six months. When word got out that Green Tree was open for business – one of the first libraries to do so in the county – we were a lifeline for patrons needing the internet. Our space became a hub for unemployment claims, rental assistance and other critical social services.

The needs of the community have changed significantly during the COVID pandemic. Our award-winning library has risen to the challenge and adapted its services. Programs that once packed a room have moved to Zoom and Facebook. (The little boy that had only ever seen Miss Emily reading stories online was giddy with excitement when he spotted her in the library parking lot one day and saw she was real!) Staff put together personalized book bundles and movie packs so that individuals and families could still enjoy our materials without having to browse the shelves. In July, we increased hours of operation and staffing.

During this time of uncertainty, the library has removed barriers to access, enhanced customer service and created a more welcoming atmosphere for everyone. New users can receive a library card online in seconds, current users no longer have to worry about their cards expiring since moving to auto-renewal, and everyone can use the library computers without a card at all. We’ve upgraded our website to be more mobile-responsive, and purchased updated WiFi hotspots for patrons to take home.

Now we are asking for your help as we continue to work through this crisis and emerge stronger. To show your support, please donate at www.loveyourlibrary.org today. During the month of September, all gifts up to $500 will be matched thanks to a generous gift from the Jack Buncher Foundation. We thank you for loving your Green Tree Public Library!

Sincerely,

Adaena Tray,

Library Director
