9.9.10- Make Your Own Bubblegum (4 p.m.)

Make Your Own Bubblegum

Bubblegum is easy to make, but unfortunately you won't find its ingredients in your kitchen! Gum base usually comes from the sap of a tree found in Central American rainforests. Not to worry - all the wacky materials you need to make a wad of tasty, chewy gum will be provided during this after school workshop. Since this program will involve using microwaves and pouring hot liquids, parental supervision is required. After we're done mixing and making a sticky mess, we'll taste test the finished product and see how our DIY gum stacks up to the stuff found in stores! Pre-registration is required for this program. Open to first through fifth graders.

9.13.10- Back to School Author Visit (6:30 p.m.)

Author Visit

During this special back-to-school event, Mike Shuck, Aiken Elementary's very own fifth grade teacher and author, will present his new book titled Numbers Elementary: Rounding. This story introduces primary-aged students to the characters of Numbers Elementary School and showcases a lesson learned when a new student, Five, joins the class. Children and their families will have the opportunity to purchase a copy of the book and have it personally signed by the author. Please register for this event using the link below.
