This wonderful children’s book is part of Green Tree Public Library’s new E STEM (Easy Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) collection.
The author, Jennifer Ward, acclaimed for her many nature-theme picture books, writes sweet poems about a wide variety of animals who burrow in the ground. Along with each poem are educational descriptions of when and why each animal burrows. For instance, a red fox will dig a maternity den when ready to give birth to her kits. Beavers build what’s known as a den or lodge with underwater entrances leading to dry chambers where they raise their young for two years before sending them out to make their own way.
The book is beautifully illustrated by award winning artist, Steve Jenkins. The charm and warmth of Steve’s illustrations will have you and your child feeling as though you could cozy right up next to each of the wonderful animals in their little underground homes.
