The library is proud to announce the launch of our new Kitchen Tool Lending Library, the first of its kind in the county. Cardholders are invited to check out kitchen-related tools and small appliances.
This is a great opportunity to experiment with new gadgets before buying, to borrow seldom-used items rather than having to own and store them, to create memories and learn new skills through cooking and baking, and to access tools that might be financially out of reach. In addition, this shared approach encourages sustainability by reducing the amount of tools purchased and eventually entering the waste stream.
The Kitchen Gadget Lending Library is starting out small, but mighty. If the collection is popular, we hope to expand the offerings. The lending library currently features:
- A non-stick silicone jelly roll pan baking mat
- A Belgian waffle maker
- A Hello Kitty toaster (that leaves Hello Kitty imprints on your toast!)
- A spiral vegetable slicer
- Holiday cookie cutters
- Halloween cookie cutters
- An immersion hand blender
If you have an idea for future tools and appliances, please let staff know!
To borrow these items, stop by the library to browse the collection, which will be displayed by the mystery section. Select your items as you would a book or movie, and bring your selections to the front desk. You will need a current, valid library card to check out kitchen tools. First-time borrowers will be asked to sign a form. Subsequent borrowing will require a simple updating of this form.
Kitchen tools are non-renewable and circulate for one week with a $1.00 fine per day for overdue items. Because this is a special collection, items must be borrowed and returned at the Green Tree Public Library. They will not be available for hold and cannot be placed in the book drop.
Borrowers will be required to return the tools in the same working condition as they were when issued, subject to normal wear and tear. In addition, staff will make a reasonable effort to sanitize the tools in between users.
