Green Tree Public Library offers a collection of American Girl Dolls: Molly, Julie, Kit, Caroline, Maryellen, Josefina, Felicity, Z, Addy, Gabriela, Logan, Nanea, Luciana,Kaya, Rebecca, and Melody! Each of these dolls are now available for you to put on hold and take home with you. There is no limit to the number of times our American Girl Dolls can visit you at home, so even if you’ve already had a doll, when you return her you can ask to get on the waiting list again!
Green Tree Public Library is part of an American Girl Collection pilot in Allegheny County, the library will be receiving additional dolls in the future. Any additional dolls the library adds to the collection will be able to be checked out and taken home with you too!
Some of our dolls were purchased with a generous donation directly to Green Tree Public Library by the Green Tree Woman’s Civic Club. Their supportive donation allowed Green Tree to become the first library in Allegheny County to own Nanea, the latest historic doll released by the American Girl Company. If you’d like to contribute to Green Tree’s American Girl Collection, please contact the library for more information.
In addition, in 2015 Green Tree was part of a pilot library program aimed at creating American Girl kits with the Allegheny County Library Association. This is how we were able to have Molly, Julie, Kit,Caroline, Addy, Kaya, Melody and Rebecca added to our collection. The Allegheny County Library Association welcomes any donations of new or gently-used American Girl historical dolls, clothing and books to help build future kits for our library and other libraries in the county. You can drop off any suitable material to our circulation desk. Donations of any amount are accepted. To donate to this program that supports libraries throughout our county, you can make a donation online through the program’s Crowdrise site.
How can you take an American Girl Doll home with you?
Anyone with a valid library card can take home an American Girl Doll for one week at a time. They may not be renewed and must be picked up and returned at Green Tree Public Library. If the doll is already home with another library friend, we will be happy to place a hold on her for you. You’ll then be notified when she is ready for her trip to your house!
What can I do with at American Girl Doll at my house?
Lots of things! Each doll will come with a book, clothing and accessories. She really wants you to read her book, play with her, and write about your adventures together in her special journal! When you take a doll home, you’ll also get a special notebook so that you can share your American Girl adventures with everyone else who takes a doll home! Write about how much you liked playing her, your thoughts about her book, or draw a picture of the two of you together! Just be sure to keep dolls away from water, take care of their belongings, and keep them clean.
What happens if I return my American Girl Doll late or damaged?
American Girls can stay at your house for one week. When she is returned late, you will be charged 50 cents per day. If an American Girl Doll is damaged or her kit is lost, patrons will be charged $175. Any minor damages or lost materials will be handled on a case-by-case basis with Green Tree Public Library. But we are positive you’ll do a wonderful job of keeping them clean and safe at your house.
