If you were ever curious as to what a roomful of toddlers looks like on Valentine’s Day, we have the answer: bubbly, energetic, and full of the giggles! Many of our toddlers were dressed in red and and pink and many were happy to share they had candy and chocolate treats before coming to the the library this morning. Today’s special Toddler Storytime was full of festive energy and love. Which is perfect, because our theme was Valentine’s Day, of course!
After singing and dancing to our favorite songs, children also sang If You Love Me and You Know It and read some great books.
Here is what we read today:
I Need a Valentine! by Harriet Ziefert
Margery desperately wants a valentine, but her mother says that she must send one to receive one in return. So off Margery goes to make and send a valentine to her grandfather and eagerly wait for her own mail to arrive. Children will delight in this lift-and-flap book with a simple but strong message about the joys of giving.
Kiss, Kiss by Jennifer Coüelle
Forehead kisses, cheek kisses, kisses in the air, and kisses from your mom. The world is full of all types of kisses and this lyrical picture book is a sweet read for Valentine’s Day, or any other day of the year. Filled with delightful pictures, this book is sure to make everyone want to pucker up and give a kiss to their loved ones.
After storytime today, our toddler friends beaded a Valentine’s Day necklace complete with a thumbprint heart. Beading is a wonderful activity for toddlers as it helps build their attention span and practice their fine motor skills. We beaded with pony beads today and cord today, but toddlers at home can bead with large wooden beads and shoelaces! These types of supplies are easy to find in dollar and craft stores and can be a fun (and inexpensive) activity for winter afternoons.
If you missed Toddler Storytime today, we hope to see you soon! Toddler Storytime is hosted regularly at 10:30 am on Tuesdays. Children ages 2 to 3.5 and their caregivers are invited to participate in Toddler Storytime. Please see our Events Calendar for future dates.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
