This juvenile non-fiction book is a great introduction to the basics of American Sign Language (ASL). The author starts with the reasons for signing as well as a short history of the development of this unique form of communication. The book is then divided into sections with brief explanations and photographs of children performing the individual signs. Topics include letters and numbers, home, school, days of the week, animals, colors and feelings. This would be a great publication for first time students to learn sign language.
