Lola & Tiva: An Unlikely Friendship is a wonderful early reader book about a Kenyan nature reserve called the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and a young girl named Tiva whose father worked at the reserve.
The book explores the special relationship that develops between Tiva and a baby rhinoceros called Lola. Born to a blind mother who was unable to care for her calf, Lola is befriended by Tiva who helps care for Lola in my ways. From feeding her a bottle five times a day to picking bugs off her body to helping her wallow in the mud Tiva and Lola form a most unusual friendship.
Enhanced throughout by photographs by Peter Greste, this is a lovely book to introduce young readers to the concepts of friendship, compassion and conservation awareness.
